Secret 400ft waterfall - Road to Hana Maui
MAUI'S BEST KEPT SECRET
The road to hana is Maui's biggest tourist attraction with around 2.4 million visitors per year. The road is 52 miles long with 600 turns and 59 bridges, 46 of which are one lane. The road is set out with mile markers which give you an indication of where you are because theres no 4G on Road to Hana, so do your research to find out where to stop but theres something cool at every mile.
The road has literally thousand of waterfalls but there was one that we were looking for in particular.
Finding the best places to stop that are not filled with tourists can prove difficult, especially when the local people won't tell anyone where anything cool is. I know this because I messaged about 50 people on Instagram asking and got replies like "sorry bro, we don't roll that way" or they just didn't know where it was.
Fair enough, they don't want the most beautiful places in the world turning into tourist attractions.
We had to go out and just find it ourselves.
After countless hours searching on Youtube, Instagram and Google maps we realised there is literally nothing on the whole internet telling you where this waterfall is. But we had a rough idea of where to stop the car.
We set off at 5.30am in hope that we could get very very very lucky and find it.
Once we stopped the car, we went through bushes for about 10 minutes and came out to a stream we had no idea where we were but it was our best bet so decided to follow it up, with the logic that every stream must lead to a waterfall.
We walked up the stream for about 40 minutes, until the water got too deep.
We swam for about 10 minutes till we reached the corner behind me in this photo
We stayed there for a while and just felt good about life
This is how it feels...
We didn't see a single person the whole time we were there.
Can't say exactly where this is, it would ruin it for you anyway but if your on Road to Hana get out between miles 10-26 find a stream and just go explore.
Some other cool spots on the road...
Mile marker 11.5
Cool waterfall with a rope swing.
You can see it from the road.
Mile Marker 48.1
Waioka Pond (Venus Pools)
Cool cliff jumping spot next to the ocean.
When you get to mile 48.1 jump the fence on the side of the road closest to the ocean and walk across the field there is a small path that will lead you there.
Red Sand Beach
Located near Hana school, you get to a dead end and walk through a forest. Can't remember how we found it but we asked a shop owner in Hana and he wouldn't tell us. Beach is was quiet except for one guy snorkelling naked, it was rather strange.

We didn't expect this, so we hid all our stuff (wallets, car keys, drone, 2 cameras) under some branches and went swimming
Turning the corner was a moment I don't think I will ever forget in my life.
